50mm OD Metric PVC Double Union Ball Valve (d50 / DN40)
Check your pipe first. Measure across the outside of the pipe. If it is 50mm, this valve fits. If it is 60mm, it does not — that is Australian 50mm pressure PVC, and Bunnings stocks valves for it.
True-metric 50mm PVC-U ball valve, plain solvent-weld sockets, double union both ends. Takes pipe measuring 50.0mm on the outside — the DIN 8062 / ISO metric series. This is the size found on imported pond pumps and filters, aquaculture and hydroponic kits, and metric pipe bought from overseas online sellers. It does not fit Australian AS/NZS 1477 PVC or any poly pipe.

Why the same pipe has three names
Australian PVC pressure pipe is sized by nominal bore, so its "50mm" (DN50) measures 60.3mm outside. Metric pipe is sized by outside diameter, so its 50mm is 50mm. Depending on whose catalogue you are reading, this size is called:

This is an outdoor valve for systems that already run 50mm-OD metric pipe:
- Ponds and outdoor pond filtration running imported pumps
- Outdoor aquaculture, aquaponics and hydroponic systems built from imported kits
- Outdoor water transfer, treatment and dosing lines built to the metric standard
- Irrigation and stock water runs already plumbed in metric PVC
- Any repair or extension of an outdoor metric system
Not supplied for indoor installation, aquarium or display-tank use. Sold for outdoor service. If a leak would damage a building or livestock, buy a certified valve from a specialist supplier instead.

Installing it
Unscrew both union nuts and remove the socket ends before gluing — never glue with the sockets on the valve body. Solvent-weld each socket to the pipe with PVC primer and cement, let it cure, then refit the valve and hand-tighten the union nuts only. Run the system and check both unions for weeping before you trust it. Leaks at a glued joint are an installation fault, not a valve fault.
Servicing
Undo the union nuts and the valve lifts out of the line without cutting pipe or disturbing anything either side — which is the whole point of fitting a double union rather than a plain one.
